Creative Mindfulness
Vex & Delight
what fills my sails these days
Creative mindfulness is meditating while making something. It's the physical act of allowing your mind to disengage and open up to the endless possibilities of the universe. This has been proven many times over by people who conduct scientific studies, to relieve stress, improve confidence and focus, and contribute to an overall sense of wellness and wellbeing.
I achieve this state when making my original hand painted greeting cards. They make me happy. I draw and paint nearly every day, by hand, using actual physical materials – paper, pencil, pen, paint. They solve a question I have been asking myself for years now, how can I come up with an art product that I will enjoy doing consistently, that is also affordable and conveys the wave of joy I feel when creating them?
No two cards are alike, each is an original, made by me. The paper I am using feels great, ethically sourced pulp, cotton rag or mulberry. Each card comes with a matching envelope, even the tiny ones.
I love painting and drawing, I love making things, making a mess, working my way through abstract compositions, wanting to throw canvases away and working them back into something I like. These larger art projects can take time, weeks, months, years sometimes. While the cards are quick bursts of anima, a breath of an idea. They bring me great joy and help me relieve my stress. And they don't make a mess at my kitchen table.
Being a designer, I couldn't help but also make at least one mass-produced design, my gold foil stamped sun cards.
I'd love to hear from any of you receiving this newsletter, about what makes you happy, what fills your soul, when you create?
Send me a note!
With gratitude,
Tamara
